Oral Cancer Screening

At Bridge of Allan Dental Care all patients receive the traditional oral cancer check (which is a visual examination under white light where you would be asked to stick your tongue out and then push it in to your left and right cheeks) and also a Velscope check.

The Velscope is a state of the art early detection system. The Velscope emits a safe blue light and stimulates natural fluorescence in the soft tissues of your mouth. Healthy tissues give a bright apple-green glow while abnormal tissues appear dark. If anything suspicious is detected, you would then be referred on to a specialist for further testing such as a biopsy.

The Velscope allows us to see disease not visible with the naked eye. Discovering oral disease more quickly allows quicker referral and if required, treatment.
